Stokes Equipment Company Goes Green with a Solar Energy System
HORSHAM, PA – June 28, 2010 – Stokes Equipment Company, the largest distributor of loading dock equipment, industrial doors and hydraulic lift equipment in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland, has installed a 26 kilowatt (kW) solar energy system at its corporate headquarters in Horsham. Mercury Solar Systems designed and installed the system and helped the Company secure both the federal and state grants for the project.
Tom Swaintek, President, Stokes Equipment Company, commented, “We partner with the best and most energy efficient manufacturers of plant facilities and material handling equipment and we felt we needed to do our part to reduce our carbon footprint.” He continued, “The federal and state incentives were a real selling point for us as they enabled us to offset 55 percent of the project cost in the first year. We believe this is a win-win for our employees, customers and the local community.”
The Company’s solar energy system consists of 96 panels and 2 inverters. It is expected to produce 29,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) per year, offsetting 69 percent of Stokes’s corporate headquarters annual electricity needs. The system’s environmental impact is equivalent to offsetting 30 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), recycling 507,312 million cans of soda, planting 2.6 acres of trees and taking 3 cars off the road every year.
“We are excited by the great momentum in Pennsylvania by the small to mid-size business community,” said Andrew Kleeman, General Manager of Mercury Solar Systems Pennsylvania operation. “Many of these companies are large users of electricity and the more that adopt this renewable energy source, the closer we will get to ending our dependence on fossil fuels.”
